The pattern on which Renshammar is based belongs to the neoclassical style that became popular in the late 18th century. The original was wallpapered in a bedchamber on the Renshammar farm in Hälsingland in 1784. After Gustav III's trip to Italy, this type of neoclassical pattern became popular. The style of the time was inspired by antique shapes taken from Italy. The patterns became more distinct and began to include stripes and winding vertical bands. The colours of the wallpaper of the time were black with one or two additional colours on a light background.
